Submission Guidelines

Submissions for the third issue will be open between 29th January & 29th February. The next issue’s theme is: the garden [& other growing things].

For our third issue we’re looking for poetry, prose & hybrid work.

Guidelines:

  • Poetry

    • Up to three poems; we'd love to see more concrete poems & other works that blur the boundaries between text and art

  • Prose

    • Up to three pieces of prose totalling up to 3000 words

    • We’re looking for essays, reviews, interviews, fiction & everything that falls in between

  • Hybrid work

    • Up to five pieces

    • Please ensure the resolution of your images is 300dpi

    • We're also interested in visual poems & interactive pieces

Please note that we are looking for experimental writing & are unlikely to consider pieces which don’t challenge a traditional approach to poetry or prose.

Email your work to needlepoetry@gmail.com. Include the category you’re submitting to as the subject line & a short cover letter with a few words about your work. Please do not include a bio, we will request one if your work is accepted. Submissions without a cover letter will not be considered. Submissions in multiple categories are encouraged, but please include all pieces in one email. If your work is accepted, please wait six months before submitting again.

We welcome submissions for the website on a rolling basis. These are not restricted by theme.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted.

We do not consider pieces that have appeared elsewhere, in print or online, including social media and personal blogs.

Please allow between 4 to 6 weeks for a reply.

We reserve the rights until publication (in print or online), upon which they revert to you.

We are currently unable to pay contributors but hope to do so in the future. Contributors to the print issue will receive a free copy.

While we encourage you to submit your wildest excursions in formatting & layout, please keep in mind that our print format is 21cm x 21cm & your work may be formatted to fit that frame.

Thank you for considering Needle Poetry as a home for your writing, we can’t wait to read your work!
